12 month contract, starting in the New Year | Canberra City Location | Hourly rates (APS6 $56.49-$62.11) & (EL1 $69.46-$76.76) plus superannuation
Our Federal Government is currently seeking experienced Media Officers to join their team at the APS6 and EL1 level. Working in a small team, you will utilise your previous experience working in a high pressure media environment to deliver a range of complex and strategic media solutions and opportunities.
Your responsibilities will include; Supporting in the development and delivery of consistent, high quality and timely media advice, support and services Liaising with key departmental and ministerial stakeholders Assisting in the coordination of media responses, drafting and editing media materials Supporting in developing proactive media strategies and a program of media opportunities Providing sound advice on managing contentious media issues, and developing media ready content and responses to media enquiries
The ideal candidate will possess; Strong written and verbal communication skills Experience responding professionally to media enquiries, including the ability to work with others to draft and edit media responses and other communication products Ability to identify opportunities for media events and continuous improvement
As well as the above, candidates at the EL1 will also need to possess; 5 years’ experience in delivering media services or equivalent industry experience Strong stakeholder engagement skills Demonstrated experience in producing high-quality written products such as media releases, speeches and briefing material A sound understanding of the Australian government and public sector environment Tertiary qualifications in journalism and/or extensive experience in journalism or media management
It is also desired that you have completed, or currently engaged in a media cadetship, degree or diploma in strategic communication, public relations, journalism, similar qualifications, and/or have relevant experience.
This is a security assessed position. Applicants must be an Australian citizen, with successful candidate either holding or having the ability to obtain a Baseline Australian Government security clearance or undergo other employment suitability checks.
