EL1 Assistant Director of Safety - Geelong

Our client, a Federal Government Department, is seeking an EL1 Assistant Director of Safety (WHS), to start ASAP for a contract until October 2019 with a possible extension.

The duties of the Assistant Director WHS include:

  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Investigate/record incidents, accidents, complaints and some cases of ill health
  • Undertake risk assessments and ensure hazard inspections are undertaken
  • Ensure equipment is installed correctly/safely
  • Identify potential hazards
  • Determine ways of reducing risks
  • Develop internal health and safety policies/strategies/guidelines, etc.
  • Compile statistics
  • Draw up safe operational practices and drive necessary changes
  • Write reports, bulletins and newsletter articles
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Provide health and safety meetings and train courses for employees
  • Liaise with relevant authorities
  • Keep up-to-date and ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Liaise with stakeholders
  • Prepare communications and marketing materials
  • Undertake research tasks

    Ideally you will have:

  • Proven experience as a safety manager
  • Working knowledge of current health and safety legislation, such as the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Fair Work Act 2009
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment

This opportunity will see you working closely with the senior management team and across the agency to ensure programs are delivered on schedule and within budget.

    Working as the Project Manager, you will support the project scoping, development, implementation monitoring. Additionally you will be required to;
